Llife Coaching Clients
Clients engage a coach for a variety of reasons - unique to each client - with resolutions also unique to each client. A co-active, cognitive approach to coaching allows me to work with each client individually, focusing on his or her goals, dreams, desires, changes and unique life situations.
Client Stories
In this day and age, feeling overwhelmed is common. Many clients have approached coaching seeking a more balanced life with less stress and anxiety. A female client in her mid-30’s was feeling out of control. Every day was packed full and, although she felt she was accomplishing much, something was missing. We jointly set goals for the coaching, and began investigating her world. What was she doing that was working? What was not working? What did she want to stop doing? This hit the mark for her.
The thoughts of not doing some of the things in her life created feelings of guilt and anxiety. In the past, these feelings would hold her back and render her “stuck” when she attempted to cut things out of her schedule or out of her life. Our coaching focused on her thoughts about these things, where the feelings of guilt came from, and how realistic the feelings were. What she found was that the guilt and anxiety were mostly self-induced and they were based on very little external evidence. In other words, she was erroneously creating guilt and anxiety in her life!
She began to think of, and approach her days differently. No longer a slave to fear- and anxiety-inducing thoughts, she was able to begin saying “No” to things, freeing up her time to do new things that she longed to do, but previously couldn’t find the time. With these new experiences, came more balance and a sense of calm and peace.
For this client, the coaching process lasted about 2 months. Consistently investigating negative self-talk and beliefs, trying new things, planning for her future, and taking small steps towards what she wanted allowed her to find increased self-confidence, less guilt and anxiety, and more balance and integration.
What can we each learn from this client’s experience? First, sometimes it’s difficult to see the forest for the trees. An outsider’s view and understanding of how people “work” can be invaluable. Second, even when we think there’s no way out, there always is. And it doesn’t have to mean someone gets hurt or stress and fear are involved. And finally, we are in charge of our lives, even when it may not seem like it, and we can change almost anything we want to change!
